  • About The Role

  • The Property Assistant is responsible for managing key quantitative information for the GB Railfreight property portfolio, ensuring that data is well organised and important deadlines—like rent reviews, lease expiries, and service charge milestones—are accurately monitored.

In this role, you will support the Head of Property in identifying and progressing commercial opportunities that enhance revenue across the GBRf property portfolio. You will also contribute to the development of the GB Railfreight property strategy, ensuring it aligns with commercial, operational, and engineering requirements.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong interest in property, excellent organisational skills, and the drive to grow professionally. We offer future study support for those looking to develop their qualifications and progress their career. While property‑related experience or a relevant qualification is an advantage, success in this role is driven by motivation, a proactive mindset, exceptional organisation, and a genuine willingness to learn.

This role can be based in Peterborough or Doncaster and the salary on offer is up to £30,000.

    Closing date: 26th March

    Main Responsibilities

    • Support with the various roles involved in the acquisition of a new property (lease terms, Heads of Terms, site visits, compiling photographic schedules)
    • Support project managers where necessary on schemes related to development on new sites.
    • Provide support on site design, lease mapping and supplier management
    • Advise GB Railfreight on relevant changes to legislation and best practice where applicable to the management of the estate.
    • Undertake other tasks where necessary that might be required to support the growth of the GBRF property portfolio or to protect the H&S or compliance of the GBRF property portfolio.
    • Represent GBRF departments at internal, industry and customer meetings or site visits Act responsibly at all times to ensure the H&S of GBRf employees and the wider public.
    • Support on any property development schemes where necessary and try and ensure they are implemented successfully within agreed timescales and budgets.
    • Support the Head of Property to ensure that GBRf are compliant in their duties as both landlord and tenant to avoid any reputational or financial damage.
    • Help to find efficiencies and savings where possible across the property portfolio
    • Assist the Head of Property in ensuring that suppliers, consultants and contractors are managed efficiently to ensure smooth delivery of services (terms of engagements, description of works, parameters on their duties).

    Personal Profile

A motivated and detail‑focused individual with a background or keen interest in property, bringing strong analytical skills, ability to manage quantitative information, organise data, and track key property milestones. Bringing a proactive, organised approach, strong communication skills, and the confidence to work independently while building effective relationships in a fast‑paced environment.

    Essential Qualifications

    • A full clean driving licence, held for a minimum of 12 months.

    • Effective interpersonal abilities, with the confidence to build and sustain positive working relationships.
    • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage data, track key dates and milestones, and maintain accurate property‑related records.

    Desirable

    • Experience of reviewing and managing contracts.
    • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject.
