  • About The Role

  • Join GB Railfreight as a Locomotive Planner, where you’ll take charge of deploying our active locomotive fleet to meet weekly fluctuations in demand. From proactively managing planned maintenance interventions to ensuring seamless day‑to‑day service delivery, you’ll oversee specific fleet allocations against strategic targets and guide on‑going fleet performance to make sure the daily train plan runs at its very best.
     
    This role is based in Peterborough and the salary on offer is up to £44,000

    Main Responsibilities
    •  Allocate locomotives against commercial demand targets and report daily upon delivery, including communication of reasons for short running and actions to correct, with associated completion dates.
    • Flexible accommodation of the peaks and troughs in demand, with a customer focussed approach.
    • Ensure that maintenance regimes of all locomotives are adhered to, as prescribed within their respective VMIs and by their respective ECMs (including GBRf’s own ECM polices), through proactive management of the fleet to ensure that vehicles are placed for their required maintenance interventions.
    • Clear communication of on-going, day to day fleet deployment plans to the traincrew responsible for delivering the shunting requirements to ensure that plans are delivered as intended.
    • Help and influence the building of train plans with Timetabling and Traincrew Planning teams to ensure that robust locomotive plans are implemented.
    • Attend business implementation calls and represent the Locomotive Planning team to ensure concerns and issues are raised and resolved when implementing new traffic
    • Collaborative working with the Locomotive Asset Management team, and third-party maintenance suppliers, to align the fleet maintenance resource with the rolling stock plan to enable effective maintenance to be delivered. • Collaborative working with the Control team to react to unplanned alterations in the most effective manner possible to minimise disruption to GBRf and its customers and restore the planned service levels as soon as possible.
    • Work to the locomotive recovery process to ensure that locomotives are kept in service wherever possible within safety regulations and, where this is not possible, ensure that they are repaired and returned to traffic seamlessly as possible.
    • Support the Commercial team in delivering commercial requirements whilst mitigating any adverse impacts on long term plans and daily delivery targets.
    • Mitigation of any risk, safety led or otherwise, in locomotive supply delivery so much as is reasonably practicable.
    • Minimisation of cost in locomotive supply delivery so much as is reasonably practicable, without compromising the safety case of the business.
    • Support and cross-cover across the team and deputise for the Locomotive Planning Manager where required.
    • Commitment to proactive continuous improvement throughout the GBRf locomotive planning process and the wider business processes with which the team interacts and influences.
     
    Skills and Experience
    • Knowledge of GB Railfreight, the operation of its train plan and locomotive fleet, and an understanding of the interaction between the two.
    • Knowledge of the maintenance regimes and processes of the GBRf fleet. • Personal organisation and attention to detail. Locomotive Planner
    • Ability to manage multiple workflows, prioritise as required, and similarly guide others in this approach.
    • Ability to constructively communicate in a calm and collected manner, both internally and externally with customers and suppliers, even when working under pressure.
    • Competent with MS Office products.
    • Competent the Network Rail TOPS system
